Solo Travel for the Soul

Solo Travel For The Soul

Travelling alone can seem daunting. What if you get lost or worse yet, invite danger to yourself? For how long can you be by yourself without getting bored or feeling alone anyway? The doughnuts keep increasing. But as they say, if you never go, you will never know! After all, some of life’s greatest moments happen when you show courage.

So, buckle up and get ready to undergo a life-changing journey—travel solo to enrich your soul. However, every trip is incomplete without vacation photography. And just so you don’t end up with awkward selfies, remember to book a photoshoot with us for an on-demand shoot with professional photographers.

1. Get some time

“In travel, you find the world. In solo travel, you find yourself.”

In the hustle-bustle of the world, it is easy to find ourselves skipping from one task to the other. Wake, work, sleep and repeat become our mantra. The personal and professional define us, and our relationships with people largely contribute to our sense of self. In the midst of all this, we often forget to think about ourselves—solely on our terms.

Travelling solo gives you the chance to stop and reflect; to understand yourself—your likes, dislikes, and the answer to what makes you ‘you’. It gives you the time and mental space to introspect and understand your past decisions, processes the present and plan the future. And sometimes, it just gives you a chance to breathe which is everything you need.

2. Feel free like a bird

Imagine a star-studded sky against snow-capped mountains with crickets chirping and the crackle of a fire in your ears. You are basking in the silence of the night, taking in nature at its best and suddenly, your reverie is broken by your friends who are done with their share of nature appreciation for the day. You still haven’t had enough but now it’s time to go.

Were you travelling alone, it would not come to this. There, you are the master of your plans. You can choose to follow your itinerary to the dot or be spontaneous. You can stop along the way to relax and laze around or keep bouncing across the town all day. You have the freedom and flexibility to go about your vacation depending on the mood you find yourself in. Isn’t this control refreshing after the chaos of everyday life?

3. Wear your confidence

Being on your own in an unknown city is a feat in itself. Everything is new and out of routine. Yet, you find yourself being at the top of your game—searching, planning and executing. From booking flight tickets to making reservations in a restaurant, from eating alone to navigating your way around different parts of the city and making plans to tour a museum or paraglide, you are in charge. This instils in you unparalleled confidence, one that comes out of independence.

Not only do you exude confidence on the outside, you feel confident and at ease with your inner self too. You learn that solitude does not mean loneliness. And it is when you start enjoying your own company, that you find the confidence that comes from within you—the unshakeable kind.

4. Up your management skills

Managing things on your own teaches you many important life lessons. You might find yourself in situations that you haven’t handled before or have been too intimidated by earlier. Now that you are travelling solo, there is no option but to step out of your comfort zone and face the challenge. As a result, you learn to think on your feet and become a pro at logistics. You know that you’ll find your footing wherever you are. That in turn, makes you dependable and someone who people look up to as their resource person.

5. Explore and experience

This is the perfect chance to immerse yourself in the culture of the place you are visiting. Read about the traditions of the place, talk to locals and if possible, participate in their daily life and festivities. You might get to see a way of life that is very different from you and yet works fine. This will help broaden your perspective and leave you with more food for thought along with all the fun memories.

Additionally, extend your social circle. This is the time to meet new people and develop new friendships. Approach that interesting-looking person who you normally hesitate to talk to because you fear that you might have nothing in common. Or perhaps strike a conversation with a fellow solo traveller about your shared experience and see where it takes you.

Still uncertain? Don’t be! Listen to Nike and just do it. And when you finally decide to take the plunge, don’t forget to hire a photographer who’ll capture all your adventures and aha-moments of reflection! At Holidaygrapher, we’ve got all your travel photography needs covered.
